The First Flower — Spring I takes its place within The Young King Digital Museum as the opening work of the twelve-part seasonal sequence that follows the Genesis Core.

After the Genesis Hall establishes the origin and emergence of The Young King, Spring I begins a new stage in the museum’s chronology.

Here, The Young King is no longer encountered only through the question of where he came from.

The world has begun to reach him.

The childlike wax-crayon flower visible on his body introduces the first drawn memory of The First Flower, a sequence that will continue through Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

Within the Digital Museum, Spring I is preserved together with its images, documentation and relationship to the works that follow it. Its position establishes the starting point from which the seasonal sequence can be experienced as a continuous passage through time.

The flower is simple.

The mark is still young.

But from this first work, a larger chronology begins to grow.

Spring I marks the moment when the museum moves beyond origin and into experience.

The Young King has entered the world.

And the first flower has appeared.
